OSOYOOS, BRITISH COLUMBIA, August 14, 2013 – Watermark Beach Resort is perfectly situated in Canada’s finest wine producing region on the shores of Osoyoos Lake with vineyards, farms and orchards surrounding it. The Watermark team has used their extensive knowledge of the area to develop two wines with local winemakers John and Virginia Weber of Orofino Vineyards. “Really Really Red”, a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and “Whet Wet White”, a Chardonnay, will be served at Watermark’s Wine & Tapas Bar where guests can enjoy the summer sun out on the extensive patio while sipping on this new, limited release.
John Weber handcrafted the two wines with Watermark’s General Manager, Ingrid Jarrett, and their Wine Bar Manager, Simon Gillett. Their goal was to capture the hot summer days of the Similkameen Valley, and produce something that was exclusive to the property. Unlike Orofino’s famous single varietal wines, Gillett and Jarrett chose a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot after they enjoyed a barrel tasting at the vineyard. The Really Really Red was aged for 18-months in French Oak, which is 6-months longer than usual, and has hints of blackberry and cassis. It’s ideal for summer BBQs and, equally, on a winter evening by the fire. For the white they decided on a Chardonnay, as that’s their best selling white varietal, although they did decide to give it a modern twist. The Whet Wet White has notes of tropical fruit and a subtle oak due to 50% of the grapes coming from a stainless steel cask rather than all of them being oaked.
“There are so many amazing wineries in the South Okanagan so we jumped on the opportunity to work with one of the very best. We wanted to produce a first class wine that would be reflective of our resort and offer our guests an exclusive experience,” said Ingrid Jarrett, General Manager at Watermark Beach Resort.
Ordering 100 cases in their first year, the Watermark team anticipates an early sell-out. The wine is exclusive to the resort and can be purchased by the glass or bottle at the Wine & Tapas Bar or in the guest rooms - it also adds a touch of exclusivity to the beverage menu for events and weddings.
