MAY 6, 2013

LOS ANGELES, California (May 6, 2013) - The Going Green Film Festival announces the winners of the 2013 film festival.  They are: First Place: STEEL EARTH, Second Place: THE GREAT LOS ANGELES RIVER, and Third Place: HUIA.

STEEL EARTH is a TV show hosted by J. Paris where they track down ABANDONED machines in the woods. Join them on an epic adventure as they dig up forgotten Planes, Trains, Boats, Cars, Antique Machinery, and much more. Hang on for the ride of your life!

THE GREAT LOS ANGELES RIVER The Los Angeles River is facing serious environmental challenges in the 21st century. Through humor, The Great Los Angeles River will educate the public about these obstacles, and hopefully create change for future generations.

HUIA  1899; one of the most famous native New Zealand birds, the Huia, is nearing extinction. Famed Ornithologist Sir Walter Buller pursues the Huia for his book, his collection, and for Science – but when presented with an unexpected opportunity to save two huia birds, his growing concern for the species leads him to seek their preservation in a decidedly controversial way.

The Third Annual Going Green Film Festival transitioned into a "virtual" film festival in 2013 in order to reach a broader audience. It ran April 1-30, 2013.

The festival encourages green filmmaking by rewarding filmmakers who have lessened their carbon footprint on the planet during production, used alternative transportation within the storyline of their films, or have created a film whose subject includes the environment, third world issues, food, wildlife.
