Artists with Disabilities to Exhibit Work at Popular Jacksonville Art Festival

Artwork from Hattie Larlham Creative Arts has been juried into the Orange Park Art Festival, which will be held at Orange Park Mall in Jacksonville, Fla., on Feb. 9-10. During the weekend exhibition, Orange Park Mall’s parking lot is transformed into a giant outdoor art gallery. Artists from across the county exhibit work at this popular festival, which each year attracts thousands of art collectors, tourists, area residents and families. This is the first year Hattie Larlham Creative Arts has participated in the festival.

Hattie Larlham Creative Arts is a nationally renowned art program that empowers people with developmental disabilities to communicate through artistic expression. The program is operated by Hattie Larlham, a non-profit organization that provides health care, recreational programs and vocational training to people with developmental disabilities. Hattie Larlham Creative Arts started near Cleveland, Ohio, in 2007 with six artists with developmental disabilities. It has since grown to serve 87 artists and produce artwork that is often juried at national art shows. Pieces from the Hattie Larlham Creative Arts program have sold for as much as $2,000, with all proceeds going directly to the artists with disabilities.

The Orange Park Art Festival is the first of two Florida art festivals Hattie Larlham Creative Arts is participating in this spring. Works produced by artists in the Hattie Larlham Creative Arts have also been juried into the Gulf Cost Fine Art Festival on March 16-17 at the Gulf Coast Town Center in Fort Myers, Fla. On the eve of that festival, Hattie Larlham Creative Arts will showcase work by its artists at a special preview reception on Friday, March 15 at The Von Liebig Art Center in Naples, Fla. at 5 p.m.

When being selected for both the Orange Park Art Festival and the Gulf Coast Fine Art Festival, the work from Hattie Larlham Creative Arts was juried solely on its merits with no special consideration given to the fact that the artists have developmental disabilities.

Both art shows and the reception at The Von Liebig Art Center are free and open to the public.

The Orange Park Mall is located at 1910 Wells Road in Orange Park.

The Gulf Coast Town Center is located at 9903 Gulf Coast Main St. in Fort Myers.

The Von Liebig Art Center is located at 585 Park St. in Naples.
