(Butler, PA) Butler County Community College held an Opening and Dedication for the new BC3 @ Brockway location this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the lobby of the new facility in Brockway. There were approximately 90 people in attendance for the ceremony and ribbon cutting.
Senator Joe Scarnati spoke to attendees about the importance of BC3 @ Brockway to the area. He was followed by Jill Hans, Deputy Secretary for the Office of Postsecondary and Higher Education for the Pennsylvania Department of Education, addressed grant funding and the support of education in the state. Other speakers included Dr. Jim Linksz, Interim Executive Director at the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges; Bill O'Brien, Vice President for Continuing Education and Off Campus Locations; and Dr. Nick Neupauer, BC3 President.
BC3 student John Felczak also addressed attendees. Felczak, a Brockway resident, was employed by Brockway Mold and the Owens-Illinios Glass Company for 35 years prior to their closing. He talked about his experience working with CareerLink to get a degree in Business Management from BC3 and how the College is helping him achieve his goals.
After the ceremony and ribbon cutting, guests enjoyed refreshments and had the opportunity to tour the new 14,000 square foot facility including classrooms; a biology, anatomy and geology lab; a conference room; student lounges and an outdoor patio.
Located on Wood Street in Brockway in the former Owens-Illinois administrative offices, BC3 @ Brockway opened for the fall semester on August 26.
BC3 @ Brockway is a new and unique opportunity for residents to attend college close-to-home and at an affordable cost. Associate Degree's available at BC3 @ Brockway include: Business Management, Early Childhood Education (Pre K-4), General Studies, Pre-Nursing, Psychology and Social Work.
Butler County Community College is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
